SEE THE WORLD, SERVE THE WORLD IN SINT MAARTEN
International Nonprofit Promotes Global Citizenship through Service
PHILIPSBURG, SINT MAARTEN – TGC Collective is proud to announce the official launch of its See the World, Serve the World service program. The weeklong service trip took place in the beautiful island country of Sint Maarten. Sint Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. It encompasses the southern 40% of the divided island of Saint Martin, while the northern 60% of the island constitutes the French overseas collectivity of Saint Martin. Its natural features span lagoons, beaches and salt pans. The warm hospitality of its people, its diversity and its varied cultural activities all allow it to be nicknamed the "Friendly Island".
TGC COLLECTIVE + PRESENT SINT MAARTEN
In partnership with Present Sint Maarten, TGC Collective aided in hurricane Irma recovery efforts through home restoration in the Middle Region area of Saint Martin. In addition to service work in Middle Region, the organization purchased caps in support of SXM Cap Project, a social initiative to drive economic and environmental support to the island. For each cap sold a part of the profits are donated to plant trees in Sint Maarten.
TGC Collective’s ecotourism adventure included an Eco Island Tour, sailing to small islands on the coast such as Tintamarre, Creole Rock, and Grand Case. This excursion offered insight into the work of Saint Martin Nature Reserve. Saint Martin Nature Reserve works to protect the island’s five main ecosystems: the coral reef, the mangroves, the phanerogam seagrass bed, ponds and the coastal forest.
TGC Collective believes integrating sustainability into travel and other actions in life is key to the global and local welfare of ecosystems, cultures, and communities. Sint Maarten continues to embrace the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is committed to achieving the goals during the Decade of Action.
